Question : Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States


(a) whether it is a fact that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved inclusion of all North Eastern States for setting up of food processing units within the sub-scheme of the Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States (HMNEH) of the Integrated Mission for Development of Horticulture (MIDH);

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is considering to launch a similar scheme in Jammu and Kashmir as the State has vast potential in agriculture and horticulture sectors; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in its meeting held on 12.12.2013 approved implementation of Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH). The Mission had intervention of processing units to be implemented in three Himalayan States of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Himachal Pradesh (HP) and Uttarakhand. Implementation of the Mission started from 01.04.2014.

Subsequently, the component for setting up of processing units was extended to North Eastern States by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in its meeting held on 10.12.2014.

At present the component for providing financial assistance to processing units under MIDH is being implemented in the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Sikkim.
