Question : National Bamboo Mission

(a) the details of works done by National Bamboo Mission in Assam during the last three years;

(b) whether the Union Government has conducted any survey regarding the scope of Bamboo based industry particularly in the North East Region of Assam; and

(c) if so, the details and the outcome thereof along with the fund allocated/ released for the purpose during the said period?

(a): Details of work done under National Bamboo Mission, renamed as National Agroforestry & Bamboo Mission (NABM) on 6th July, 2015 during last three years (2013-14 to 2015-16) in Assam are as under:

4,300 ha area has been covered with bamboo plantation and 2,250 ha of existing bamboo plantation has been improved for higher productivity. In addition, 13 nurseries have been established to supply quality planting material and 400 farmers / entrepreneurs & 50 field functionaries have been trained in various activities of bamboo sector and nursery management. In order to promote marketing of bamboo and bamboo based handicrafts, one bamboo wholesale and retail market, one bamboo bazaar and one retail outlet (showroom) have been established. In addition, Common Facility Center / Bamboo training institute has been established.
