Question : Financial and Educational Opportunities for Girls

(a) whether the Government has provided speedy and better financial and educational opportunities to the girls in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the United Nations has also praised for providing better opportunities to the minor girls in India and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the further steps taken by the Government to ensure better opportunities to the girls in the country?

(a) to (c) There are many specific schemes run by Government for securing a bright future for the girl child. The Government of India has notified a small savings scheme namely Sukanya Samriddhi Account on 2.12.2014 to cater to the requirements of education and marriage of girl child. The natural or legal guardian may open the account in the name of girl child from the birth of girl child till she attains the age of ten years. All scheduled Banks have adopted and implemented the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) Model Education Loan Scheme to provide education loan to girl students on concessional interest rate.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA)) is to ensure greater participation of girls in elementary and secondary education and enhancing the quality of education by providing a school within a reasonable distance of every habitation. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched a scheme to provide assistance for Advancement of Girls participation in Technical Education.
The nationwide multi-sectoral Beti Bacho Beti Padhao initiative aims to secure a bright future and welfare of the girl child in India. The specific objectives of the scheme include the preventive gender biased sex selective elimination and ensuring education and participation of the girl child.
