Question : PRODUCTION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS IN NORTH-EAST



(a) whether the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is engaged in the production of petroleum products in the North-east, particularly in the Barak Valley of Assam;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether ONGC has recently discontinued its projects in the valley;

(d) if so, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the Government is contemplating to hand over these projects to Oil India Limited; and

(f) if so the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (f) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.424 TO BE ANSWERED ON 9TH DECEMBER, 2010 REGARDING PRODUCTION OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS IN NORTH-EAST

(a) In the Barak Valley of Assam (Cachar Forward base, Silchar), ONGC is producing mainly natural gas (with very little condensate) from Adamtilla & Banaskandi fields and a small quantity of crude oil from Badarpur field.

(b) The total crude oil (including condensate) and natural gas production by ONGC in Barak Valley during 2007-10 is 0.0005 MMT and 114 MMSCM respectively.

(c) to (d) No, Madam. ONGC does not have any plan to wind up the project of Barak Valley.

(e) & (f) No, Madam. Government do not has any such plan as of now.
