Question : Low Frequency Spectrum

(a) whether the telecom companies are surrendering low frequency spectrum;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether such surrendering of spectrum are causing network and call drop problems; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) & (b) Some of the telecom companies have applied for surrender of part of their spectrum holding in different frequency bands. M/s Tata Teleservices Limited has applied in 14 service areas in 800 MHz band. M/s Bharti Airtel limited in 2 service areas, M/s Vodafone Mobile Services limited in 1 service area and M/s Reliance Telecommunication Limited have applied in 1 service area in 1800 MHz band.
M/s Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has surrendered part of its spectrum holding in 800 MHz band in 4 service areas. BSNL has also surrendered its spectrum holding in 2500 MHz band in 6 service areas. M/s Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has surrendered spectrum in 800 MHz and 2500 MHz bands in Delhi and Mumbai service areas.
(c) & (d) The surrendering of above spectrum is not likely to cause network and call drop problems.
