THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING (SMT. SUSHMA SWARAJ)
(a) The State-wise details of applications received by the Office of the Registrar of
Newspapers for India (RNI) for registration of weeklies, fortnightlies, monthlies and
publications of other periodicities during the calendar years 1999, 2000 and 2001 are
given in the Annexures I, II and III respectively.
(b) The office of the RNI normally issues Certificate of Registration within one month of
receipt of complete documents. If the documents submitted by the publisher are
incomplete, the office of the RNI sends discrepancy letter to that effect to the publisher,
for rectification.
(c), (d) & (e): Though the office of the RNI endeavours to dispose off the applications as
soon as possible, some applications for registration of newspapers from various States,
including Gujarat, are pending. The pendency is due to non- completion of various
formalities and non-submission of correct and complete documents by the publishers.
Appropriate advisory letters have been issued by the RNI to the publishers in such cases.
