Question : RESTRUCTURING OF RAILWAYS



(a) whether the Railways propose to restructure/modernise Indian Railways through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and if so, the details thereof along with the progress so far achieved;

(b) whether the Railways also propose to disinvest railway public sector undertakings and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether some instances of alleged irregularities in projects undertaken under PPP mode have come to the notice of the Railways and if so, the details thereof along with the action taken thereon;

(d) the steps taken/being taken by the Railways to prevent recurrence of such irregularities; and

(e) whether any plan of privatisation of Indian Railways is under consideration and if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS (SHRI MANOJ SINHA)

(a): No, Madam. However, Government proposes to implement certain identified projects through Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the objective of mobilising resources for building rail infrastructure.

Such implementation intends to modernise certain aspects of Railways however it will not lead to restructuring of Railways.
