Question : DISTRICT WATER AND SANITATION MISSION



(a) whether it is a fact that a District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) has been constituted in various districts of the country including in Gurgaon, Haryana to formulate, manage and monitor drinking water and sanitation projects;

(b) if so, the details thereof and present status thereof; and

(c) the steps being taken to constitute such missions for other districts of the country including Haryana?

(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. As per the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) guidelines, States are required to constitute District Water and Sanitation Missions (DWSM) in all districts, including in Gurgaon, Haryana, to formulate, manage and monitor drinking water and sanitation projects. While most of the States have set up DWSMs, some States are in the process of doing so.

Haryana has set up the District Water and Sanitation Mission in Gurgaon district vide State Government`s notification dated 6.5.2011. The State Government has also informed that DWSMs have also been set up in Bhiwani, Hissar, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Palawal, Rewari, Rohtak and Yamunanagar districts. The process of setting up DWSMs in Ambala, Faridabad, Mohindergarh, Panchkula, Mewat, Panipat, Sirsa and Sonipat districts has been initiated.
