Question : Treatment of EWS Patients in Private Hospitals

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is aware of the fact that many private hospitals in the country are not giving proper medical treatment and are reluctant to admit Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category patients, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has issued any guidelines to private hospitals to admit and give proper medical treatment to EWS category patients, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(c) whether it is binding on private hospitals to provide healthcare to the poor and if so, the details of the arrangement and the provisions in the law to that extent?

(a): No such specific complaint has been received in this Ministry.
(b) & (c): No. The Ministry of health and family Welfare has not issued any such guideline.
Health is a State subject and it is the responsibility of the State/UT Government to issue any such instructions as per the Act/Rules applicable in the State.
