Question : SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN



(a) whether a large number of schools in the country being run by public and private institutions are not paying attention towards cleanliness;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether due to insufficient number of Safai Karmacharis, the students, particularly in rural areas are asked to clean the school premises;

(d) if so, whether the Government proposes to issue instruction to all the schools and colleges across the country for promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the other positive steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e) As per the national call for Swachh Bharat, a toilet construction programme in schools has been launched where apart from the Government, many PSUs / private corporates under their CSR funds have taken- up construction of toilets in schools. States and UTs have also been advised to carry out various activities to generate awareness on cleanliness & hygiene amongst students. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) annual maintenance grant and school grant is provided to government schools.
