Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF DRINKING WATER & SANITATION
(SHRI RAM KRIPAL YADAV)

(a) State/UT-wise, the number of community sanitary complexes in the rural areas as reported by the States on the Online Monitoring System maintained by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation is at Annexure-1.

(b) Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the States can plan for Community/public toilets, wherever required. Since operation and maintenance of such toilets is important, the States are advised to ensure that there is adequate water availability for these and also mechanism for their operation and maintenance. In rural areas, from point of view of maintenance, convenience and sustainability, individual toilets are promoted. Community/Public toilets may however be required in bigger, peri-urban villages or villages with floating population.

(c) Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), the issue of inadequate access to toilets is being addressed. There is a provision of incentive for construction and usage of individual toilets. The individual toilet at home addresses the concern of women/household more comprehensively than a community toilet.
(d) Yes. A grant of Rs. 2 lakh is available under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
(e) State/UT-wise, Community sanitary complexes constructed during the last three years and current year as reported by the States on the Online Monitoring System maintained by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation is at Annexure-2.
