Question : Yoga Education

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of AYUSH universities/ colleges offering bachelor and master degree programmes including Yoga across the country;

(b) the number of students admitted in Undergraduate and Post-Graduate level degree programmes in these universities/ colleges across the country along with their respective fields;

(c) whether there is no intake at PG level in Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy in various AYUSH colleges in the country, if so, the details thereof, State-wise and reasons therefor; and

(d) the efforts made by the Government to promote and expand higher education in Indian systems of medicine in the country and worldwide?

STARRED QUESTION NO 94* FOR 29TH APRIL, 2016

(a) There are 09 AYUSH Universities, 297 Ayurveda, 19 Naturopathy & Yoga, 46 Unani, 09 Siddha and 197 Homoeopathy colleges offering Bachelor and/or Master degree programmes in the country. Details are given in Annexure- I.
(b) Total admission capacity in AYUSH Colleges at Under-graduate level is 34541 (17202 Ayurveda, 940 Naturopathy & Yoga, 2321 Unani, 420 Siddha and 13658 Homoeopathy) and Post-graduate level is 4923 (3646 Ayurveda, 45 Naturopathy & Yoga, 174 Unani, 140 Siddha and 918 Homoeopathy). Details are given in Annexure- I.
(c) Intake is available in Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy in various college in the country at Post-graduate level. Details are given in Annexure- I.
(d) The Central Government has taken steps to promote education on AYUSH system in the country by approving the regulations for the colleges and notified by the Central Council of Indian Medicine and Central Council of Homoeopathy. The details of regulations are given in Annexure – II.
Two new institutes viz. All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi and North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy, Shillong are in advanced stage of construction.
Further, the assistance given by the Government of India under the component of Development of AYUSH Institutions of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) is facilitating improvement in infrastructure in AYUSH Colleges and attached Hospitals and thereby improving quality of existing educational Institutions.
Furthermore, to promote higher education in the AYUSH systems, the Central Sector Scheme of International Cooperation has a component under which International Scholarship/fellowships in the field of AYUSH courses are offered in premier Institutes/colleges in India. The details are given in Annexure – III.
To ensure credibility of knowledge and skill of Yoga experts, a scheme for voluntary certification of Yoga professionals was launched by the Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with Quality Council of India (QCI). The aim of the Scheme is to promote authentic yoga as a preventive and health promoting drugless therapy and to certify the competence level of the professional to help their deployment within and outside the country.
