(a) : The employees drawing wages beyond Rs.6,500/- per month are
not covered under the ESI Scheme. Due to general increase in wages,
many employees gradually went out of the purview of the ESI Scheme
and consequently the number of employees covered under the ESI Scheme
came down from 6,48,550 in March, 1998 to 6,44,050 in March, 2000
registering a decrease of 0.69% during the last three years.
(b) : There are nine ESI hospitals i.e., one each at Rajajinagar,
Indiranagar, Dandeli, Davangare, Hubli, Mysore, Mangalore, Shahbad
and Belgaum in Karnataka. The information relating to ESI
dispensaries district-wise is annexed. There is no proposal from the
Government of Karnataka for opening of a new ESI hospital/dispensary
during 2000-2001.
(c) to (e) : The ESI Corporation has formulated an action plan to
improve medical care facilities in the ESI hospitals by providing
them modern equipments of Ultrasonography, Pulse Oxymeter, auto
analyzer, semi-auto analyzer, cardiac monitor, dental unit etc. The
Corporation has also planned establishment of trauma centres,
super-speciality centres, blood banks, Cancer Treatment Centres etc.
in the ESI hospitals. Necessary basic equipments as per demand of
the State Government are sanctioned for all the ESI dispensaries.
The ESIC has already sanctioned an amount of Rs.136.56 lakh for
upgradation and modernization of medical services in 7 ESI hospitals
in karnataka.
