MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SHRI MUNI LALL)

(a) : The employees drawing wages beyond Rs.6,500/- per month are not covered under the ESI Scheme. Due to general increase in wages, many employees gradually went out of the purview of the ESI Scheme and consequently the number of employees covered under the ESI Scheme came down from 6,48,550 in March, 1998 to 6,44,050 in March, 2000 registering a decrease of 0.69% during the last three years.

(b) : There are nine ESI hospitals i.e., one each at Rajajinagar, Indiranagar, Dandeli, Davangare, Hubli, Mysore, Mangalore, Shahbad and Belgaum in Karnataka. The information relating to ESI dispensaries district-wise is annexed. There is no proposal from the Government of Karnataka for opening of a new ESI hospital/dispensary during 2000-2001.

(c) to (e) : The ESI Corporation has formulated an action plan to improve medical care facilities in the ESI hospitals by providing them modern equipments of Ultrasonography, Pulse Oxymeter, auto analyzer, semi-auto analyzer, cardiac monitor, dental unit etc. The Corporation has also planned establishment of trauma centres, super-speciality centres, blood banks, Cancer Treatment Centres etc. in the ESI hospitals. Necessary basic equipments as per demand of the State Government are sanctioned for all the ESI dispensaries. The ESIC has already sanctioned an amount of Rs.136.56 lakh for upgradation and modernization of medical services in 7 ESI hospitals in karnataka.
