STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.3514 BY DR. NILESH N. RANE TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 15.12.2011 REGARDING LAND ACQUISITION FOR KONKAN RAIL PROJECTS

(a): The total area of land acquired for Konkan Railway Project was 6215 Hectares, out of which 5008.06 Hectares was Private Land. A total of 33818 landowners were affected due to this acquisition.

(b): The total compensation paid by the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited to the affected persons / families was Rs.103.18 crore and so far, 2037 landlosers or their wards as per eligibility, have been employed through various recruitments from time to time.

(c): Konkan Railway has adopted a policy of giving preference to affected families in its recruitment and also Commercial Contracts over Konkan Railway Stations, subject to vacancies and fulfilment of eligibility criteria. Konkan Railway has also relaxed upper age limit for recruitment of candidates belonging to land losers category.
