(a) whether the Government contemplate to accord deemed university status to 17 regional engineering colleges;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(c) the progress so far made in this regard?

(a) & (b) Proposal for grant of Deemed to be University status to the 17 RECs in the country have been received in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. A State-wise list of these RECs is annexed.

(c) Declaration of institution as a Deemed to be University status is a statutory process for which several conditions have to be met. UGC has given its recommendation to the Ministry of Human Resource Development in respect of 14 RECs. RECs would be granted Deemed to be University status only after they change their Memorandum of Association and Rules.
