Question : TELEPHONE ADVISORY COMMITTEE



(a) whether the Government have dissolved all 16000 Telecom Advisory Committees (TACs) functioning in the country recently;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether there is any plan to review the working of these TAC`s in order to reconstitute these in each State; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) Yes, Sir. All the Telephone Advisory Committees (TACs) in the country, numbering 364 have been dissolved on 24.9.2001.

(b) to (d): These Committees were constituted for interfacing with customers when the service provisioning function was with the Government. On 1st October, 2000, the operations wing providing services has been corporatised as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and private sector companies in the telecom sector, who have to operate in a competitive environment, have been advised to evolve suitable mechanism for interfacing with the customers effectively.
