Question : New Coaches in Trains

(a) whether the Railways has been considering to provide new coaches instead of old collapsed coaches in Trivandrum and Palakkad division in Southern Railway;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Railways has allotted new coaches to Trivandrum, Madurai and Palakkad divisions in Southern Railway;

(d) if so, the division-wise details thereof during the last five years;

(e) whether the railways has received any complaint from State Government of Kerala or daily commuters, who are travelling in outdated coaches at Palakkad, Trivandrum and Madurai division of Southern Railway; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): The coaches that have completed their prescribed service life are not allowed in passenger service on Indian Railways including in Trivandrum (TVC) and Palakkad (PGT) divisions of Southern Railway.
The age analysis of coaches running in these divisions shows that nearly 60% of the coaches are less than 15 years of age. The Codal life of passenger coaches is 35 years for Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) type coaches and 25 years for Integral Coach Factory (ICF) type coaches.

(c) & (d): Yes, Sir. The details of the new coaches that have been allotted to Trivandrum (TVC), Madurai (MDU) and Palakkad (PGT) divisions of Southern Railway in the last 5 years are as under:

(e) & (f): Complaints related to running trains are attended on priority. These complaints are being received through Coach Mitra App, Rail Madad app and various others portals and are being attended on priority with feedback from complainant. These items are also attended regularly during scheduled / unscheduled maintenance at coaching depot.
