Question : CONVERSION OF TELEPHONE EXCHANGES IN MAHARASHTRA



(a) telephone exchanges in Maharashtra which have not been converted into electronic telephone exchanges so far;

(b) by when these telephone exchanges are likely to be converted into electronic exchanges;

(c) whether the Government is aware that tele-communication service in the rural areas is disrupted due to the non- conversion of most of the telephone exchanges into electronic exchanges of Nasik district in Maharashtra; and

(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) Sir, all Telephone Exchanges of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) working in Maharashtra and also in MTNL, Mumbai are electronic exchanges.

(b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.

(c) & (d) No, Sir. All exchange in Nasik district are electronic exchanges. However, due to prolonged failure / unstable power supply in far flung rural areas of the district, the telecom services gets disrupted for brief periods.
