Question : DEVELOPMENT SCHEME OF NATIONAL HIGHWAYS



(a) whether the targeted length of National Highways under development schemes in respect of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand States has not been achieved;

(b) if so, the targets set under the development schemes for the said States during the last three years and the percentage of work done so far; and

(c) if so, the reasons for low performance and the action proposed to be taken by the Government to expedite the development of National Highways network in the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand States?

(a) The targets laid for development scheme in respect of Uttar Pradesh were fully achieved. As regards the State of Jharkhand, which was created on 15.11.2000, the targets were substantially achieved.

(b) Details given in Annex-I.

(c) Do not arise in the case of Uttar Pradesh. Minor shortfall of 5% in the case of Jharkhand is attributed due to delay in the award of work as a result of its separation from the State of Bihar.
