Question : Policy for Development and Restoration of Monuments

(a) the details of protected monuments, temples, museums and forts lying in dilapidated conditions due to natural calamities and are on the verge of collapse due to lack of proper maintenance and which have been taken up for restoration by the Government, State/UT and monument-wise;

(b) the policy formulated/proposed to be formulated along with the steps taken by the Government for renovation, restoration, beautification and development of historical places, buildings, forts, museums and other sites in the country, State-wise including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Odisha;

(c) the funds allocated and expenditure incurred on preservation/maintenance of these monuments during each of the last five years and the current year along with the details of revenue earned from these monuments during the said period through sale of tickets, State-wise and monument-wise; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to increase the number of tourists and to provide best amenities to both domestic as well as foreign tourists?

(a) & (b) No Madam. The conservation work on protected monuments of National importance in the country including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Odisha, under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), is attended regularly as per the requirements of different sites and availability of resources and they are in a fairly good state of preservation. Similarly museums are also maintained properly. ASI has already formulated comprehensive conservation policy for conservation of protected monuments, the details of which are available on ASI website www.asi.nic.in.

(c) The details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred for conservation of protected monuments, during the last five years and allocation for the current financial year are given in the annexure -I. The details of revenue collected through sale of entry tickets during the same period are given in annexure –II.

(d) The protected monuments are kept in good condition. The public amenities are up-graded as per needs. All such features acts as attraction to the tourists for visit to heritage monuments in the country.
