(a) whether the task force for development and promotion of biotechnology based products/ processes has been created in his ministry;
(b) if so, the details thereof including the activities carried out by it;
(c) whether the Government have formulated national programme for different sectors in small scale industries;

(a) & (b): A Task Force for the development and promotion of
biotechnology based small enterprises has been created under the
Chairmanship of the Development Commissioner in the Ministry of
Small Scale Industries (SSI). The Task Force presently comprises
of members from the Department of Biotechnology and officers in
the Ministry of SSI. The Task Force is charged with the task of
assisting the Development Commissioner (SSI) in the initiatives
for the promotion of biotechnology industry in the SSI sector.
(c) to (e): Government have formulated National Programmes for
the Development of the Indian Toy Industry, Lock Industry, Machine
Tool Industry and Stone Industry in association with United
Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Small
Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), National Small
Industries Corporation (NSIC), State Governments, concerned
industry associations etc. The objective of these national
programmes is to enhance competitiveness of the SSIs in these
sectors through activities that include technology upgradation,
market development, capacity building, promoting linkages,
creation of specialized facilities, design assistance etc.
