Question : Construction of Airport at Rajkot

a): whether the Government has taken up the issue of constructing an international airport at Rajkot;

(b): if so, the details thereof along with the expenditure likely to be incurred thereon;

(c): whether any application in this regard has been submitted by the Government of Gujarat to the Steering Committee in the prescribed proforma for site clearance and thereafter for in principle approval;

(d): if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon; and

(e): the time by which the work pertaining to the construction of international airport at Rajkot is likely to begin along with its target date for completion?

(a) to (e):Government of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation have granted ''in principle'' approval to the Government of Gujarat for setting up of a Greenfield Airport at Hirasar, District Rajkot on 09.10.2017. Airports Authority of India (AAI) is the implementing agency entrusted by the Government of Gujarat for construction of the airport project. The estimated project cost is Rs.2654 crores and proposed date for commencement of construction is by October 2018 and proposed date of completion is by 2022. The timeline for construction of an airport projects depends upon several factors like land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances, selection of the developer, financial closure, etc. by the implementing agency.
