(a) Whether the Metro rail has affected or is likely to affect significantly the ridge area in Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken/proposed to check the destruction of ridge area as a result thereof?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS (SHRI NAMO NARAIN MEENA)

(a) & (b) The Metro rail has not affected the ridge area so far. However, the proposed Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar-Gurgaon corridors, approved by Government, will intercept the ridge area at three locations. These interceptions are unavoidable and involve only a small area of the ridge measuring 5.56 hactares on permanent basis and 2.17 hactares on temporary basis (during construction period only).

(c) During construction, it would be ensured that minimum number of trees are affected in the ridge area. Compensatory plantation for the trees being felled will be taken up. The construction methodology will be such that there is least disturbance to the surrounding area.
