THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES (SHRI ARUN YADAV)
(a) and (b): The Government has already approved the proposal for introduction of `Maharatna`
category` for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). The Boards of Maharatna CPSEs, in
addition to exercising all powers available to Navratna CPSEs, will exercise enhanced powers
in the area of investment in joint ventures/subsidiaries and creation of below Board level
posts.
(c) and (d): The CPSEs fulfilling the following criteria are eligible to be considered for
grant of Maharatna status:-
i. Having Navratna status
ii. Listed on Indian stock exchange, with minimum prescribed public shareholding under
SEBI regulations
iii. An average annual turnover during the last 3 years of more than Rs.25,000 crore
iv. An average annual net worth during the last 3 years of more than Rs. 15,000 crore
v. An average annual net profit after tax during the last 3 years of more than
Rs.5,000 crore
vi. Significant global presence or international operations.
