Question : Medical Colleges under Phase III of CS S

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the New Medical Colleges allocated under phase III of the centrally sponsored scheme, State/UT wise;

(b) the number of colleges allotted to the State of Tamil Nadu under phase I, II, and III, phase-wise;

(c) whether the Government received detailed project report from Odisha State Government for approval of new medical college at Rayagada (Aspirational District) under phase-III of centrally sponsored scheme, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes/plans to approve new medical college at Rayagada (Aspirational District, Odisha) attached with district hospitals; and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether Government has noted that in Odisha the backward district of Kalahandi has been deprived of Medical college whereas Medical college is being established in the equally backward districts of Koraput and Bolangir; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the scheme under which the Government proposes to establish Medical college in Kalahandi and the funds likely to be spent on construction of the said college?

(a): The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare administers a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for ‘Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals’. The Phase-III of the Scheme has been approved by the Cabinet on 28.8.2019 to establish 75 more new medical colleges by 2022-23. The State/UT Governments have been requested to send their proposals under this Scheme along with Detailed Project Report as per Scheme guidelines for consideration by the Ministry. As on date 26 medical colleges have been approved. Details are at Annexure.

(b): The State of Tamil Nadu was not covered in Phase I & II. In Phase-III, six medical colleges in Tamil Nadu have been approved till date.

(c) to (f): Under Phase-III, no proposal for new medical colleges at Rayagada and Kalahandi, Odisha has been received from the Government of Odisha.
