Question : Admission in Private Institutions

(a) whether reservation in higher education is continuously opposed, whereas no objection is
raised for admission in medical and engineering courses in private institutions on low merit;
(b) if so, whether the Government propose to regulate admission in private institutions totally
based on merit; and
(c) the details of cut-off marks for admission in medical and engineering in Government as well
as in private institutions during the last year?

(a) No, Sir.
(b) Question does not arise in view of the (a) above.
(c) (i) Medical Courses: As per the regulations of Medical Council of India, to be eligible for
admission to undergraduate and postgraduate course, a candidate has to obtain minimum
marks at 50th percentile in the NEET for Government and Private Medical Colleges/ Institutions.
However in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other
Backward Classes, the minimum qualifying marks are 40th percentile and in respect of
candidates with benchmark disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Act, 2016, the minimum qualifying marks are 45th percentile for General Category and 40th
percentile for SC/ST/OBC.
Based on the criteria of qualifying cut-off percentile provided for NEET-UG 2019 for admission
to MBBS and BDS Courses (General/ SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD of General/ SC/ST/OBC) are as
follows:

(ii) Engineering Courses: JEE(Main) is gate way and is an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced) for
admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).
