Question : Assistance for Sports Infrastructure

(a) whether the assistance being provided to States by the Union Government and Sports Authority of India for construction of sports infrastructure has been stopped, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(b) whether the Union Government provides funds to State Governments for setting up and running sports academies for different games;

(c) whether several States, particularly Karnataka, have prepared proposals regarding sports infrastructure and setting up of sports academies and sent it for approval to the Union Government; and

(d) if so, the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Union Government for approval of such proposals?

(a) No, Madam/Sir.

(b) Yes, Madam/Sir. Under the Khelo India Scheme, there is a provision to provide funds to eligible agencies of State Governments for setting up and running Sports Academies.

(c) and (d) The receipt of proposals from State/Union Territory Governments including those from the State of Karnataka, and other eligible entities for development of sports, including creation/upgradation of sports infrastructure and setting up of sports academies, is a continuous process. Proposals, when received, are considered for financial assistance subject to adherence to the norms of the Scheme, their technical feasibility and availability of funds. So far, a total of 08 sports infrastructure projects have been sanctioned in the State of Karnataka under the Khelo India Scheme.
