STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF THE UNSTARRED QUESTION
NO. 1139 BY SHRI TUKARAM GANGADHAR GADAKH TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA
ON 15.07.2004 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAY IN J&K.
(a)The present status of ongoing Railway projects in Jammu & Kashmir is as under:-

1. Jammu-Udhampur (53.6 kms) The work has been completed and departmental goods traffic is running on this section.
2. Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla (287 kms) The work has been taken up in phases and the progress is given as under:-
i)Udhampur-Katra (km. 0-25): Earthwork, tunnelling and major/minor bridge works are in progress. The target date for completion of this section is December, 2005.
ii) Katra-Qazigund (km. 25-167): For km. 25-30, land acquisition has been completed and tunnelling work is in progress. For Km. 30-167, land acquisition, detailed construction survey is in progress. Tunnelling work is in progress between km. 30-50, where land is made available. The target date for completion of this section is 15.8.2007.
iii) Qazigund-Baramulla (km. 167-287): Earthwork, bridge works, etc. are in progress. Out of 14,898 kanals of land, 14,676 kanals of land has been acquired. This section is targetted for completion during 2005-06.
Doubling
1. Jalandhar-Jammu Tawi The work is in full swing and three sections viz. Suchipind-Bhogpur-Sirwal(26 kms),Mukerian-Mirthal(18kms) and Bharoli-Madhopur Punjab(13 kms) are targeted for completion during 2004-05.The whole project is targeted for completion during 2007-08.
(b) : The new line work of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla project has been entrusted to M/s IRCON International
Ltd. and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. for speedy implementation. The requisite funds for the project are being
provided as an additionality to the normal Railway`s Plan.
(c) : The proposed new railway line from Jammu to Baramulla will pass through Udhampur, Katra, Reasi, Sangaldan,
Laole, Qazigund, Srinagar and Baramulla.
(d) : No, Sir. However, there has been delay in handing over possession of land by State Govt.
(e) : Does not arise.
