(a) the area under wheat cultivation during each of the last three years and the current
year,State-wise;
(b) whether the area under wheat cultivation in the country is declining;
(c) if so, the action taken to arrest this trend;
(d) whether the Government proposes to provide irrigation facilities in the un-irrigated
areas growing wheat; and
(e) if so, the action taken thereon?

(a): State-wise details of area under wheat during the years 2006-07 to 2009-10 are given in
the Annexure.
(b)&(c): The area under wheat is hovering around 28 million hectares during the last few
years.
(d)&(e): Government has taken a number of steps to provide irrigation facilities in the
un-irrigated areas. For this purpose, a large number of dams have been constructed in different
river basins as a result of which, the total live storage capacity of the dams completed in the
country has gone up to 225 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM).
