Question : Treatment of Muscular Dystrophy

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the method of examination used to find out the reasons for muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, autism in patients along with the provisions for treatment of these diseases in the country;

(b) the number of people suffering from Muscular Dystrophy in the country, State/UT-wise particularly in UP and Rajasthan;

(c) whether the Government has any scheme or is contemplating to formulate any special scheme for treatment and rehabilitation of the persons suffering from Muscular Dystrophy and to provide financial assistance to them;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) other arrangements being made by the Government for such patients?

(a): The diagnosis process of muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, autism starts with a detailed medical history and physical examination followed with clinical investigations, consisting of laboratory tests like Enzyme tests, Electromyography, Genetic testing, Muscle biopsy, Heart-monitoring tests and Lung-monitoring tests.
(b) to(e): Information is being collected and will be placed in the House.
