Question : Sale of Stolen Mobile Phones

(a) whether the Delhi Police has recently unearthed a racket in which a gang operating in Haryana and Rajasthan was indulging in stealing mobile phones and subsequently selling such phones after changing the IMEI numbers in the NCT of Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken in this regard; and

(c) the total number of theft and other crimes reported and the action taken by the Delhi Police in this regard during each of the last three years and the current year?

(a) and (b) : Yes, Madam. Delhi Police has unearthed a gang of mobile thieves, operating in Haryana and Rajasthan by apprehending 03 accused persons, who used to steal mobile phones and subsequently sell them after changing the IMEI numbers. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 87/17 u/s 379/411/413/414/120 B/34 IPC has been registered by Delhi Police at police station Okhla Industrial Area, New Delhi. During investigation of the case, 06 more accused persons were arrested.
