Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI HUKUMDEO NARAYAN YADAV)

(a)&(b): There is no such pilot project of drip irrigation system for sugarcane provided by the Finolex Plastro Polassion Ltd. in Maharashtra. However, last year some drip irrigation companies have installed drip sets which may help in extending the crushing season in Maharashtra.

At present no such project is in operation in Punjab or Uttar Pradesh. However in Punjab some Cooperative Sugar Mills are planning trials of drip irrigation for sugarcane.

(c)&(d): A number of technologies have been developed by the ICAR/SAUs for reducing the farm costs by efficient use of inputs, use of organic manures, mechanization, drip irrigation and inter-cropping besides better use of by-products.
