(a) whether the schools adopted by SAI in various States, especially in Andhra Pradesh are very few considering the size of the States;
(b) if so, the details and the steps proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard; and
(c) the disciplines in which training is provided to students by SAI in these schools?

(a) ‘Sports’ is a state subject and promotion of orts
is the responsibility of respective states. However,
the Government of India through its various schemes
and through the schemes of Sports Authority of India
(SAI) augments the efforts of the State Governments
in promotion of sports in the country.
(b)&(c) A statement indicating the details of adopted
schools in the country under
National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) scheme is
enclosed at Annexure-I
In the state of Andhra Pradesh, SAI under NSTC
Scheme, has adopted VP Sidhartha Public School at
Vijaywada and training is imparted in the discipline
of Athletics, Badminton and Gymnastics. To promote
and nurture Indigenous Games & Martial Arts in rural
and semi urban areas, SAI has also adopted Shri
Sharda Dhaman School in Village Bangalguda, District
Hyderabad and training is imparted in Kabaddi
discipline.
Government of India, during X Plan period, has
approved extension of NSTC Scheme to Navodaya
Vidyalayas having requisite sports infrastructure.
Under this Scheme, SAI has adopted Navodaya
Vidyalaya, Kommadi, Distt. Vishakapatnam and
training is imparted in the discipline of
Volleyball.
The following Navodaya Vidyalayas of Andhra Pradesh have also been approved for adoption during 2005-2006 :-
1. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gachi Baowli, District. Rangareddy for Athletics.
2. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Vabakavakasa, District. Srikakulam for Weightlifting.
