(a) whether it is a fact that the textile industry is under severe financial crisis due to non-availability of funds, among other reasons;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has set up any task force to ascertain the status of the textile industry;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government to modernise the textile industry in the country?
(a) to (d): No specific report regarding financial crisis due to non-availability of funds for the textile industry has been received.
(e): In order to modernize the textile industry in the country Government has launched various policy initiatives and schemes. Some of the policy initiatives and schemes are Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Schemes for the development of the Power-loom Sector, Schemes for Technical textiles, Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Integrated Skill Development Scheme. Additionally, the government had also launched Jute Technology Mission (JTM) spanning a period of 6 years (2007 -08 to 2011 – 12 extended up to 2013) for overall development of the jute industry.
