Question : FPIs in Bihar

(a) whether it is a fact that the Government is planning to develop Bihar as Food Processing Hub and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the details of Food Processing Industries (FPIs) functioning in Bihar and the number of employees working therein, district-wise;

(c) the details of the total FPIs which have received technical assistance from the Government during the last four years and the current financial year, district-wise;

(d) the quantum of funds allocated and the amount sanctioned to FPIs as on date; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of FPIs in Bihar, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (e). Government has launched a new centrally sponsored scheme- PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) with an allocation of Rs. 10,000 crores to directly benefit 2 lakh micro enterprises during 2020-2025 across the country. A total of 10261 units will be supported in Bihar under the scheme. Rs. 5,04,52,000 has been released to Bihar for hiring of PMU, undertaking studies, promotional activities and other activities permissible under the scheme guidelines.

(b). As per latest Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2017-18 estimates, a total of 747 factories are operational in Bihar in Food & Beverages sector (National Industrial Classification code 10 & 11) and a total of 24,258 persons are engaged therein.

(c) & (d). The details of financial assistance provided under PMKSY to projects in Bihar is placed at Annexure. MoFPI does not operate any scheme to provide technical assistance to food processing industries in the country including in the State of Bihar.
