Question : INDIAN AUTO COMPONENT INDUSTRY



(a) the present share of India in auto component exports to various countries in terms of percentage from Low Cost Countries, country-wise;

(b) whether the growth of India’s auto ancillary sector during 2007-08 is lesser in comparison to 2006-07;

(c) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the steps taken/proposed to be taken to boost the exports of auto components in the country?

(b) & (c) No, sir.The exports in April - July 2007 period was increased by around 7% over the same period in 2006.

(d) Policy measures are announced by the Government from time to time including those contained in the Annual Supplement of the Foreign Trade Policy (2004-09).These measures are aimed to augment and sustain the current rate of export growth in line with India’s comparative advantage and the emerging situation in the domestic and international market.The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), representative body of this sector,is promoting its products through advertisement, publicity and participation in international fairs, organizing buyer-seller meets. The Government provides support to EEPC for its activities under Market Development assistance (MDA) and Market Access Initiative (MAI) Schemes of the Department of Commerce.
