STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 188 FOR REPLY ON 15.3.2022 ASKED BY SHRI RAHUL RAMESH SHEWALE AND DR. PRITAM GOPINATHRAO MUNDE REGARDING INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE SESSION
(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) In the 139th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session held in Beijing on 19th February, 2022, India won the bid for hosting the 140th IOC Session. The IOC Session 2023 will be held in May or June 2023 in Mumbai.
(c) The responsibility to host the IOC Session is that of Indian Olympic Association.
(d) Bidding to host multi-sports international events, including Olympics in India is the responsibility of Indian Olympic Association (IOA). As per the guidelines issued by this Ministry, IOA has to seek the approval of the Government before bidding for such events. No specific proposal has been received in this Ministry from IOA for permission to apply for bidding to host the Olympic Games in India.
(e) In view of the (d) above, the question does not arise.
