THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS(SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE)
During the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India in November 2006, India and China
agreed to establish an India-China Partnership in Science and Technology, and to launch joint
projects in the areas of
(i) earthquake engineering,
(ii) climate change and weather forecasting,
(iii) nano-technology with focus on advanced materials, and
(iv) biotechnology and medicines with
focus on bio-nano. The nodal officers of India and China met in Beijing in January 2008 to
identify joint projects in these areas. The two sides have agreed to call for detailed project
proposals and propose to complete the process by the middle of the year so as to commence
implementation.
