Question : Expanding Urban Mobility

(a) whether the Government has undertaken a study to explore new forms of mobility to solve urban traffic woes and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has designated a corpus for exploring and promoting gyroscopic transportation and electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles so as to solve urban traffic woes and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government has discussed the abrupt disruption of Virgin Hyperloop One project by the Maharashtra Government and if so, the details thereof including the response of Maharashtra Government thereto?

(a) Government, has recently launched two new technologies namely ‘MetroLite’ - a rail based light metro system and, ‘MetroNeo’ - a Rubber Tyred Electric Coaches Powered by Overhead Traction System, providing a low cost metro system to address the mobility requirements of Tier-2 cities and peripherals of Tier-1 cities.

(b) No, Sir. No such corpus has been designated by this Ministry.

(c) No, Sir. Urban Transport which is an integral part of urban development, is a state subject. Ministry has not received any proposal in this regard from Government of Maharashtra.
