Question : HEALTHCARE SYSTEM



(a) whether the Government proposes to ameliorate the healthcare system and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the accountability of the doctors is also proposed to be fixed;

(c) if so, whether the guidelines have been prepared in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the steps taken/likely to be taken by the Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)

(a): Health is a State subject and the State Governments are primarily responsible for providing good health to the public. The Ministry has supportive and legislative role to strengthen the health care system.

(b) to (e): Professional conduct by medical practitioners’ is governed by the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 under Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.

MCI and the appropriate State Medical Councils have been empowered to take disciplinary action under these regu- lations which may include removal altogether or for a specified period from the Medical Register.
