(a) Yes, Sir. A memorandum had been submitted by the State Government of West-
Bengal seeking an assistance of Rs.1487 crores in the wake of severe floods that
occurred in the State in the 3rd week of September,2000.
(b): A Central Team visited the affected areas of the State to assess the situation.
The Interim Committee constituted for the grant of assistance from National Calamity
Contingency Fund (NCCF) approved an assistance of Rs.103.25 crores to the State of
West Bengal which has been released to the State. In addition, in accordance with the
allocation decided by the Eleventh Finance Commission (EFC), the State of West
Bengal has been released the entire Centreâs share of CRF for 2000-2001 amounting to
Rs.75.83 crore.
