(a)&(b) As per the provisions of the Atomic Energy Act, 1962, only the Central Government shall have the authority to produce atomic energy (nuclear power) either by itself or through any authority or Corporation established by it or a Government Company. At present, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), a Public Sector Enterprise under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy is generating electricity from nuclear power.
(c) Nuclear power plants are in the Central sector. Electricity generated by these plants is allocated to the beneficiary states and union territories in the electricity region where they are located, by the Ministry of Power.
(d) During the last three years, the sources for nuclear power generation have been indigenous natural uranium and imported natural & low enriched uranium.
