Question : South North Dedicated Freight Corridor Scheme

(a) the status of progress made in the implementation of ‘South-North’(New Delhi-Tamil Nadu) and South-South (Goa-Tamil Nadu) Dedicated Freight Corridor Schemes; and

(b) the targeted new avenues likely to be created in the logistics sector after the completion of the said two schemes?

(a) & (b): Presently, Ministry of Railways has approved for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) on following routes:-
(i) East Coast Corridor – Kharagpur - Vijaywada- Length 1115 Kms.
(ii) East-West sub Corridor
a. Bhusawal-Wardha-Nagpur-Rajkharswan-Kharagpur-Uluberia- Dankuni – Length -1673 Kms.
b. Rajkharswan-Kalipahari-Andal - 195 Kms.
(iii) North South Sub Corridor – Vijaywada – Nagpur – Itarsi - Length - 975 Kms.


The DPR will include the alignment of corridor, traffic catchment area, techno-economical studies, projected traffic, financial and economic rate of return etc.

The work of preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) has been entrusted to Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) and the same is in progress. A decision with regard to taking up the new DFCs and mode of implementation, if any, may be taken on the basis of the final outcome of DPR.
