(a) whether attention of the Government has been drawn to the recommendation of
UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for a global ban on the use of
Chloramphonicol, a broad spectrum anti-biotic, in agriculture, animal husbandry and
aqua-culture; and
(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. Under the Insecticides Act, 1968, Chloramphonicol is not
registered for use in Agriculture as pesticide in the country.
Steps are being taken for action in this regard in the animal husbandry and aqua-
culture.
