Question : Real Estate Regulatory Authorities

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether several Real Estate Regulatory Authorities have demanded more enforcement power, similar to what is enjoyed by consumer forums, including the authority to issue arrest warrants and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is proposing to amend the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act to further empower the said regulatory authorities; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): It was suggested by various stakeholders including Real Estate Regulatory Authorities of various States that Real Estate Regulatory Authorities may be empowered to issue directions to all the stakeholders related to real estate projects under the relevant provisions of Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA).

(b) & (c): No Madam. There is no proposal to amend the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 at this stage.
