Question : Package to States for Agrarian Crisis



(a) whether Government proposes to release special long term package to the respective States to resolve the agrarian crisis of farmers in suicide prone regions;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of the States which have put forward their demand for funds from NITI Aayog along with the amount each of the State demanded for; and

(d) the action taken by the Government on the demand raised by each State and the time by which the funds likely to be released?

(a) & (b) The Government has taken series of initiatives to minimise the risk and to address the agrarian crisis. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been launched since 2016 with a very nominal premium of 1.5% to 5% of the sum insured paid by the farmers. Besides, the allocation under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) has also been raised substantially for the period 2015-16 to 2019-20 to provide relief to farmers and others under disaster related stresses.

(c) None of the States have put forward their demand for funds from NITI Aayog as allocation of resources to States is not a mandate of NITI Aayog.

(d) Question does not arise.
