(a) whether there is a huge difference in the prices of cement bags in the North Eastern Region as compared to that of other parts of the country;
(b) if so, whether the Government has taken any action to control the price/quality of cement and ensure its adequate and efficient supply in the North-Eastern Region; and
(c) the details of other actions taken by the Government to redress the problem including action taken against the hoarders?

(a) : The administrative Department i.e. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion does not monitor the prices of cement prevailing in the country including in the North-Eastern Region as the Industry had been de-controlled and de-licensed in 1991 under the policy of economic liberalization.
(b) & (c) : The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion does not control prices of cement, and hence no action has been taken for the same. As for quality, only BIS mark cement is permitted for sale in the country.
