(a) the salient features of a `Software Technology Parks`;

(b) the number of such parks in the country, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government have any information regarding income generated by these parks during the last two years;

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(e) whether any such parks have been set up/proposed to be set-up by the Union Government or with the assistance of the Union Government;

(f) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(g) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Software Technology Parks of India was established and registered as an Autonomous Society on 5th June, 1991 with the objective of establising and managing Infrastructural facilities including High Speed Data Communication facilities and extending other services like technology assessment and professional training to the software sector. The salient features of the STP Scheme are as follows:

- Approval under single window clearance
- 100% foreign equity permitted
- Imports are duty free
- Second hand capital goods can also be imported
- Custom bondling period is for 5 years, extendable to 10 years in case	of products requiring significant capital investment and infrastructure.
- Exemption of local taxes for domestic purchases
- Sales in the domestic market permissible upto 50% of the exports
- Exemption from Corporate income tax up to March 2010
- Export obligation on net foreign exchange is US $ 0.25m	or 3 times the CIF value of the goods imported, whichever is	more to be fulfilled over a period of 5 years.
