Question : REPAIRING OF OLD BRIDGES



(a) the details works undertaken to repair old bridges of Railways in the XIth Five Year Plan, so far, zone- wise;

(b) the funds allocated and spent on them, zone-wise;

(c) whether any preference being accorded to rural and backward areas, State-wise, including Andhra Pradesh; and

(d) the details of Public-Private Partnership models adopted in such repairing of old bridges?

(a) & (b): Rehabilitation/rebuilding/strengthening of bridges is an ongoing process on Indian Railways. Railways undertake rehabilitation /rebuilding/ strengthening of bridges on the basis of their physical condition as ascertained during regular inspections carried out in the field. Zone wise no. of bridges rebuilt /rehabilitated/ strengthened in the XI Five Year Plan till Mar’10 i.e., from 01.04.07 to 31.03.10 are as follows:
