(a) The details of the targets set and achievements made as reported by the States in Integrated Management System (IMIS) of the Ministry in terms of coverage of habitations during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise is at Annexure-I.
(b) The funds released and utilised during each year of the 12th Five Year Plan period till date, State/UT-wise is at Annexure-II
(c) Under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), the Government provides financial and technical assistance to States to supplement their efforts to provide adequate safe drinking water to the rural population. The States have been delegated the powers to select, approve and implement the drinking water supply projects. The States have a State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSSC) which approves the rural drinking water supply projects and monitors them. This Ministry monitors availability of safe drinking water in rural habitations in the country through its on-line Integrated Management Information System (IMIS). All State Governments enter their data on the coverage of safe drinking water into IMIS.
(d) The guidelines on NRDWP came into effect from 01.04.2009. The provisions with regard to criteria for allocation of funds to the States / UTs, funding pattern between Center & State, release of funds to the States / UTs, utilization of funds by the States and guidelines on Support and IEC activities etc. have been envisaged in the guidelines. A copy of the detailed guidelines on NRDWP has also been hosted on this Ministry’s website ‘http://mdws.gov.in’.
(e) Ministry has prepared a strategic plan to provide safe drinking water to 90% of the rural population of the country through piped water supply schemes by the year 2022, however subject to availability of funds. Under the plan, the following timelines have been laid out:-.
• By 2017: Ensure that at least 50% of rural households are provided with piped water supply.
• By 2022: Ensure that at least 90% of rural households are provided with piped water supply.
